Yes, the hype may have some to do with it. These cars are not sold in the US to anyone. So the seller can throw a mark up on them like no ones business. I've been to Japan twice and drove an older model friends Skyline ( 80's model ). Now sure it was no R33 or R34, but no way did I think at the time of it being a sports car at all,, lol. They are not that amazingly fast you say. Well, think again. A Z, Supra, RX-7, NSX and a 3000 are all 13 second cars, just like the Skyline. But they are governed to produce lower power and the price of the Skyline is around 30 to 40k where it comes from. There true potential has something to do with it as well. They all have a 4 second 0 to 60mph ( stock ). Look at some of thier parts listed here ( r34 Six pseed tranny ). They are true built racing, driving machines with enormous power waiting to be unlocked.
